Amazon Prime Video has officially announced the renewal of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for a third season. The Rings of Power is currently in pre-production and will start filming this spring at Shepperton Studios in the UK, the show’s new production location. Fans have been eagerly anticipating this news since the conclusion of the second season in October.
The upcoming season will focus on the War of the Elves during J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, a pivotal battle against Sauron that precedes the events of The Lord of the Rings movies. The director lineup for season three includes returning directors Charlotte Brändström and Sanaa Hamri, as well as newcomer Stefan Schwartz.
The Rings of Power’s first season was Prime Video’s biggest TV premiere, and the second season became the most-watched returning season on the platform in terms of hours viewed. The show has attracted 170 million viewers worldwide and has been a significant factor in driving new Prime membership sign-ups.
The series is produced by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, along with a team of talented executive producers and directors. The success of The Rings of Power has solidified its place as a popular and highly anticipated series on Amazon Prime Video.
