Zendaya still holds a bit of resentment towards losing the Mirrorball Trophy on “Dancing With the Stars” to Kellie Pickler in 2013. The “Challengers” star revealed to W magazine that in hindsight, she wishes she had been less stressed during the competition and embraced the experience more.
“I’m still holding onto a little resentment about that,” she expressed to the magazine. “I felt that loss. I was only 16 at the time, and it was a highly stressful experience.”
Looking back, Zendaya reflected on the pressure of being on live television every week, admitting that it was terrifying. She wished she had taken a more relaxed approach and enjoyed the journey rather than putting unnecessary stress on herself.
Zendaya partnered with Val Chmerkovskiy on the show and came in second place, with Pickler and Derek Hough taking the top prize in Season 16. Despite her past involvement, the actress confessed that she no longer watches “DWTS” but has developed a fondness for Netflix’s reality series “Love Is Blind.”
The actress, who started her career on Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up,” shared that she was a shy kid before getting into acting. Auditioning and portraying different characters helped her gain confidence and break out of her shell.
Zendaya also discussed her love for playing complex characters on “Euphoria” and “Challengers,” explaining that her job allows her to explore different aspects of herself without facing the real-life consequences of her characters’ actions.
“I love my job because it gives me the freedom to experiment and be less self-critical. When I’m Rue or Tashi, I can embrace the messiness of their characters without judging myself,” she said.
From her early beginnings to her current success, Zendaya continues to captivate audiences with her talent and versatility on screen.
