At the 27th Costume Designer Guild Awards (CDGA), the winners included Oscar frontrunners like “Wicked” (Paul Tazewell), “Nosferatu” (Linda Muir), and “Conclave” (Lisy Christl). Hosted by Jackie Tohn, the event took place at The Ebell of Los Angeles on February 6.
Tazewell, the costume designer for “Wicked,” is currently a favorite to win the Oscar for his work on the populist Oz musical directed by Jon M. Chu. His approach to nature-themed costumes for characters like Elphaba (played by Oscar-nominated Cynthia Erivo) and Galinda (played by Oscar-nominated Ariana Grande) has been praised for its innovative use of motifs like mushrooms and floating pink bubbles.
In the TV categories, winners included “Dune: Prophecy” (Bojana Nikitovi) for sci-fi/fantasy, “Shōgun” (Carlos Rosario) for period, and “Hacks” (Kathleen Felix-Hager) for contemporary.
Additionally, Jenny Beavan, a three-time Oscar winner, received the Career Achievement Award, Zoe Saldaña was honored with the Spotlight Award, Janelle Monáe accepted the Vanguard Spotlight Award, and Salvador Perez earned the Distinguished Service Award.
