Matthew Rhys is set to star in a new Apple TV+ series called Widow’s Bay, where he will play the mayor of a cursed New England island. The 10-episode series follows the story of a mysteriously cursed island and its superstitious citizens, led by Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Rhys, who refuses to believe their warnings.
Rhys will not only star in the series but also executive produce alongside creator Katie Dippold. The pilot will be directed by Hiro Murai, known for his work on Atlanta. Widow’s Bay explores the struggles of Mayor Tom Loftis, a no-nonsense single dad trying to put the area on the map while dealing with the superstitious beliefs of the town’s residents.
In addition to Widow’s Bay, Rhys has a busy upcoming schedule with multiple projects. He will star in The Beast in Me, a Netflix limited series alongside Claire Danes, and Silent River, a Prime Video serial killer drama series with John Krasinski. Rhys will also appear in Towards Zero, a BBC series based on an Agatha Christie novel, and Hallow Road, a thriller premiering at SXSW.
