Peaky Blinders’ creator, Steven Knight, is optimistic about the upcoming film hitting the big screen. Knight, who is also responsible for the popular Netflix series, recently shared with The Playlist about the highly-anticipated film, which completed filming a few months ago with a star-studded cast.
The film, which features actors such as Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, Rebecca Ferguson, Cillian Murphy, and Stephen Graham, has left Knight impressed, describing it as “mind-blowingly good.” While the original TV series aired for six seasons from 2013 to 2022 on Netflix, it was announced last year that Tommy Shelby’s story would continue on the big screen instead of a seventh season. Knight, who wrote the screenplay, is hopeful that the film will not only be released on Netflix but also in theaters for fans to enjoy together.
Shelby, portrayed by Cillian Murphy, leads the Peaky Blinders, a gangster group in 1900s Birmingham. The film is considered a “continuation” of the series, with Tom Harper directing. Murphy has expressed his admiration for Knight’s work and commitment to returning to the role of Tommy Shelby.
Knight has hinted at the possibility of future projects related to Peaky Blinders, stating, “As long as there’s an appetite for it and I’ve got stories to tell, then why not?” The film’s release in cinemas would allow fans to come together and experience the next chapter in Tommy Shelby’s story.
