Whoopi Goldberg defends Beyoncé against Fox News pundit criticism
Whoopi Goldberg has come to the defense of Beyoncé after conservative author Raymond Arroyo criticized the global icon for winning the best country album at the 2025 Grammys. Arroyo appeared on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle, hosted by Laura Ingraham, where he called Beyoncé’s Grammy wins a “ridiculous outcome”. Beyoncé won best country album and album of the year for Cowboy Carter, as well as best country duo/group performance for “II Most Wanted” featuring Miley Cyrus.
Arroyo claimed that country artists were not happy about Beyoncé’s wins and compared her Grammy count to Dolly Parton and Frank Sinatra. Goldberg responded to Arroyo’s comments on The View, highlighting that Grammy voters must be involved in the music industry and that the number of Grammy categories has increased since the awards began in 1959.
Goldberg emphasized that Beyoncé earned her wins and addressed Arroyo directly, mentioning that music is about the people and not the issues he raised. Cowboy Carter, released in March 2024, not only made history for Beyoncé but also highlighted Black artists in the country music space and sparked conversations about Black artists reclaiming genres like country music.
Despite Beyoncé’s success with Cowboy Carter, she was famously snubbed from the CMA Awards last year. Beyoncé made history as the first Black woman to win the Grammy for best country album. Check out the video below for more information on the controversy.
