MJ Lenderman, the Asheville, North Carolina indie-rocker, is featured in a new profile in GQ by Grayson Haver Currin, a longtime Pitchfork contributor. The article reveals that Lenderman will no longer tour with Wednesday, but will continue to make recorded music with the band. Representatives for Wednesday and Lenderman have confirmed this update to Pitchfork.
Lenderman joined Wednesday in 2020 at the request of lead singer Karly Hartzman, who originally started the band as a solo project in 2017. Although Lenderman and Hartzman were previously in a romantic relationship, they are no longer together.
According to the article, Lenderman’s final show with Wednesday took place earlier this year in Japan. The new member replacing Lenderman in the live lineup is reportedly named Jake, but no further details were provided by the group’s representative.
In 2022, Lenderman released his breakout solo album “Boat Songs.” The following year, Wednesday released their biggest record to date, “Rat Saw God.” In 2024, Lenderman continued his solo success with “Manning Fireworks” and is currently on tour with his band, the Wind, for much of this year.
