Last August, Warner Bros. Discovery announced a partnership with Birtcher Development and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to develop a studio lot complex in Nevada with a long-term commitment to investing $8.5 billion in production spending over a decade. However, it seems that this vision has hit a roadblock as Warner Bros. is no longer working with Birtcher on the project. They are now searching for a new developer to work on what will be known as Warner Bros. Studios Nevada.
“We remain dedicated to creating Warner Bros. Studios Nevada and are excited about the potential economic benefits it will bring to the state,” stated a Warner Bros. Discovery spokesperson. The dissolution of the partnership was first reported by The Nevada Independent.
The plan for Warner Bros. Studios Nevada was unveiled last summer by Warner Bros. Studios COO Simon Robinson, who described it as a way to expand their facilities and accommodate more productions in the future. The proposed $8.5 billion investment would equate to about $500 million in annual spending over 17 years.
The development of the studio complex is contingent on a bill introduced by State Senator Roberta Lange, which aims to increase film and TV tax incentives in the state. Senator Lange emphasized the importance of the partnership with various entities to promote job growth and economic development in Nevada.
Brooke Birtcher Gustafson, president of Birtcher Development, expressed disappointment at Warner Bros.’ decision to part ways but reaffirmed their commitment to projects at UNLV’s Harry Reid Research & Technology Park. Warner Bros. Discovery declined to provide further comments on the matter.
