Vertical secures North American rights to “My Mother’s Wedding,” the directorial debut of Kristin Scott Thomas, a renowned actress with Academy Award nominations and BAFTA wins. The film, inspired by Thomas’ own family story, was penned by Thomas and her husband John Micklethwait. Featuring a star-studded cast including Sienna Miller, Emily Beecham, Scott Thomas, and Scarlett Johansson, the movie is set to hit theaters this summer.
“My Mother’s Wedding” revolves around three sisters reuniting at their childhood home for their mother Diana Frost’s (played by Scott Thomas) third wedding. The sisters, with diverse backgrounds including a hospice nurse, a Hollywood star, and a Royal Navy Captain, must confront their past and future during the significant weekend celebration. Notably, this marks the third collaboration between Scott Thomas and Johansson as mother and daughter on screen.
Expressing her excitement for her directorial debut, Scott Thomas shared, “Directing has been on my mind for some time now. The story has many layers, drawing from my childhood experiences and universal themes of family dynamics and romantic relationships. Working with a talented cast led by Scarlett, Sienna, and Emily was a joy and privilege.”
Produced by Finola Dwyer and Steven Rales, “My Mother’s Wedding” offers a poignant exploration of family dynamics, beautifully portrayed by a stellar cast. Vertical partner Peter Jarowey expressed his enthusiasm for bringing this exceptional film to North American audiences later this year.
The film was executive produced by Scott Thomas, Micklethwait, and Caroline Levy, boasting a talented crew including director of photography Yves Bélanger, CSC, production designer Andrew McAlpine, editor Joan Sobel, ACE, and costume designer Sinéad Kidao, with music by Rolfe Kent.
The deal for North American distribution was negotiated by Vertical SVP of acquisitions Tony Piantedosi and Jarowey, with CAA Media Finance representing the filmmakers in the negotiations. Stay tuned for the release of “My Mother’s Wedding” in theaters this summer.
