A major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck off the coast of Northern California, causing a tsunami warning to be issued for residents in the area. The earthquake hit near Humboldt County, California, close to cities like San Francisco and Sacramento. While a tsunami did not hit the coast, residents in Northern California and Southern Oregon were put on alert.
Governor Gavin Newsom was briefed on the incident, and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services tweeted about the tsunami warning. The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management also advised residents to stay away from water and beaches.
