One of the most thought-provoking documentaries of the year, “Henry Fonda for President” by Alexandar Horwath, is set to be released in just a week. This three-hour journey through the career of the legendary actor takes a unique approach by using his performances and life events to explore the history of America. The film premiered at Berlinale last year and will have its U.S. theatrical premiere run starting at Anthology Film Archives on April 3.
The synopsis of the film reads: “HENRY FONDA FOR PRESIDENT is a filmic portrait of the actor Henry Fonda that goes beyond the conventional Hollywood portrait. It explores and meditates upon the changing politics, society, and culture of the United States through the prism of Fonda’s life and career. The film incorporates elements of found-footage filmmaking and landscape cinema, combining archival material with Horwath’s own footage of sites throughout the U.S.”
