The 2025 Oscars saw a smaller total audience compared to the previous year, but there was an increase in younger viewers tuning in. Hosted by Conan O’Brien, the telecast averaged 18.07 million viewers on ABC and Hulu, marking the first time the Academy Awards were live streamed. Despite technical glitches on Hulu during the evening, the show managed to attract a significant audience.
The total audience for the Oscars on Sunday decreased by approximately 7% compared to the previous year, which saw a four-year high of 19.49 million viewers on ABC without a live stream. However, final figures are yet to be released, and it is possible that the 2025 Oscars may come closer to matching the 2024 tally.
Although there was a decrease in the overall audience, the 2025 Oscars saw increases in adults aged 18-49 and 18-34, reaching a post-pandemic high in the latter demographic. The show received a 3.92 rating among adults 18-49, up from 3.82 the previous year, making it the second best mark since 2020. Among adults 18-34, the rating of 3.17 was the highest since 2020.
The Oscars remains the most-watched awards show of the season, surpassing the Grammys with 15.4 million viewers a month ago. It also outperformed the Grammys in the 18-49 demographic. Additionally, the telecast is the top primetime entertainment show on broadcast TV for the 2024-25 season, surpassing the Grammys once again.
