A reissue of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ 1982 album, Long After Dark, is ready for launch on October 18. The remastered LP comes with 12 bonus tracks, together with seven not but launched. To accompany the reissue, the Petty Legacy archives will share a collection of unearthed songs and movies from 1982-83 in the coming weeks. Beneath, try the first, a 1982 model of “Straight Into Darkness,” shot for French tv by director Alan Bibby.
Amongst the bonus tracks are just a few that Petty needed on the authentic album, a press launch notes. “There was some music recorded for Long After Dark that didn’t get on the record, that I thought would’ve made it a better album,” Petty is quoted saying. “I left off… four things that I liked quite a bit. And probably a few more written that never even got in the door.” Liner notes in the reissue come from David Fricke, with commentary from Jimmy Iovine and Cameron Crowe.
