NBC has given the green light to a pilot for a new comedy series produced by Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan. The untitled single-camera comedy will feature Morgan in the lead role as a former football player looking to redeem himself.
This project marks a reunion for Fey and Morgan, who previously collaborated on the hit sitcom 30 Rock. Fey, known for her role as Liz Lemon on the show, co-created 30 Rock while Morgan portrayed Tracy Jordan. The comedic duo also worked together on Saturday Night Live and made an appearance on the show’s 50th Anniversary Special.
Following the success of 30 Rock, Fey went on to create Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for Netflix. Her upcoming comedy series, The Four Seasons, based on the 1981 film, will premiere on Netflix this spring. Fey will star in the show alongside Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, and others.
In addition to his work on the NBC comedy, Morgan is set to star in another TV project called Crutch, a half-hour comedy on Paramount+ launching later this year. The show is a spin-off of the CBS series The Neighborhood, and Morgan’s contract allows him to appear in both projects. Prior to Crutch, Morgan starred in the TBS comedy The Last O.G. for four seasons.
The untitled NBC comedy pilot will be written by Robert Carlock and Sam Means, both of whom have previous experience on SNL and 30 Rock. Rhys Thomas is set to direct and executive produce the pilot, with additional executive producers including Eric Gurian and David Miner. The series will be produced by Universal Television in partnership with Little Stranger, Bevel Gears, and 3 Arts.
