TikTok has announced that they are in the process of restoring their services after President Trump’s pledge to sign an executive order delaying the implementation of the divestiture bill. The popular social video app went dark in the U.S. just before the bill was set to become law on January 19th.
The Biden administration has stated that the actions to implement the law will be handled by the next Administration. President Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, urged companies not to let TikTok remain offline and expressed a desire for the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture.
TikTok later thanked Trump for providing clarity and assurance to service providers, allowing millions of Americans and small businesses to continue accessing the app. They stated that they will work with President Trump on a long-term solution to keep TikTok in the United States.
Additionally, Marvel Snap, another app owned by ByteDance, also went offline on Sunday. The American company developing the game, Second Dinner Studios, stated that the outage was unexpected and that they are working to get the game back up as soon as possible.
