Meta is rolling out a new feature on Threads that will allow users to re-share photos and videos on their timelines with credit to the original poster. This new feature will make it easier for users to share trending images and clips without quote posting.
To use this feature, users will need to long press on a photo or video from their feed and select “use media.” They can then create a new post with the image or clip attached, showing a watermark from the original poster in the top left corner. Threads chief Adam Mosseri explained that this feature is designed to give credit to the original creator and prevent content theft.
While Meta is trying to shift distribution from aggregators to creators on Instagram and Threads, some creators are still unhappy with the approach. Users have the option to disable media reuse in their app settings to block their posts from being shared this way.
It’s important for creators to protect their content and prevent it from being ripped off by less scrupulous accounts. This new feature on Threads aims to give credit to original creators and make it easier for users to share trending content.
