The “Happy Face Killer” was a notorious serial killer of the 90s, arrested in 1995 and currently serving a life sentence. While claiming responsibility for 160 murders, only eight have been officially linked to him, making his story a captivating one for true crime enthusiasts.
Numerous podcasts have covered the Happy Face Killer’s story, and there have been movies loosely based on him as well. His daughter, Melissa Moore, wrote the book “Shattered Silence” detailing her experiences growing up with a serial killer as a father. The Happy Face Killer is linked to eight murders that occurred between 1990 and 1995, mostly involving strangulation of victims, some of whom were sex workers. His infamous nickname was derived from a confession letter he wrote to The Oregonian newspaper in 1994, featuring a drawing of a Happy Face.
The individual behind the Happy Face Killer persona is identified as Keith Hunter Jesperson, a former trucker who was married to Rose Hucke, with whom he had four children, including daughter Melissa. The upcoming Paramount+ series will feature Dennis Quaid portraying Keith and Annaleigh Ashford as Melissa, based on the iHeartMedia podcast “Happy Face” and Moore’s book.
