Carol Goldwasser, a renowned casting director who worked on hit kids-focused TV shows like Hannah Montana, Austin & Ally, Dog With a Blog, and Cousins for Life, passed away at the age of 67. She unexpectedly died on December 5 at her home in Palm Springs following minor surgery.
Goldwasser was known for her trademark greeting “Hi, Doll!” and for nurturing talent like Zac Efron, Khary Payton, and Alison Brie. With over two decades of experience in casting both in Los Angeles and New York, she made a significant impact on the entertainment industry.
Born on August 3, 1957, in Freeport, New York, Goldwasser initially pursued a career in music performance and education, graduating with top honors from the University at Buffalo. However, her passion for the entertainment industry led her to a successful casting career.
Starting her career as an assistant at Breakdown Services, Goldwasser quickly rose through the ranks and worked on various TV shows before becoming an independent casting director. She contributed to popular shows like Hannah Montana, Austin & Ally, Dog With a Blog, and Cousins for Life.
Throughout her career, Goldwasser received numerous accolades, including two CSA Artios Awards and a nomination for television casting director of the year from the Heller Awards. She was also actively involved in promoting diversity in casting.
Survived by her sister, brother-in-law, and beloved cat Nala, a celebration of Carol Goldwasser’s life will be held in January. Her unexpected passing has left a void in the entertainment industry, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
