The Best Film of 2024 according to the New York Film Critics Circle is The Brutalist, directed by Brady Corbet. Adrien Brody, the star of the film, also won the best actor award for his portrayal of a Hungarian Jewish architect who starts a new life in the U.S. after World War II.
Nickel Boys received two awards for best director (RaMell Ross) and cinematography (Jomo Fray). Marianne Jean-Baptiste from Hard Truths was awarded best actress, Kieran Culkin from A Real Pain won best supporting actor, and Carol Kane from Between the Temples won best supporting actress.
Sean Baker took home the award for best screenplay for Anora, and the best animated film award went to Flow. All We Imagine as Light was named the best international film, and No Other Land was named the best nonfiction film. Janet Planet received the award for best first film.
Last year’s best film was Killers of the Flower Moon. The organization was founded in 1935 and consists of critics from various publications. They meet in December to vote on awards for the previous year’s films. Special awards are also given to individuals and organizations that contribute to the art of cinema.
