The Animation Guild members have voted to accept a new contract with studios and streamers, covering 2024-27 and including wage increases and protections regarding the use of artificial intelligence in animation. The vote saw 76.1 percent in favor of the deal, following months of negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
Steve Kaplan, TAG business representative, praised the agreement as a step forward in creating a strong contract for members, emphasizing the need to address concerns about generative artificial intelligence. The AMPTP also congratulated the guild on the ratification of the new three-year deal, highlighting historic gains in wages and protections for employees.
While the 76.1 percent approval is slightly lower than the previous agreement, the turnout among members set a record. In addition to wage increases and AI protections, the contract includes improvements to health and pension funds, on-call hours, dismissal pay, sick days, bereavement leave, recognition of Juneteenth as a holiday, and craft-specific wins such as minimum staffing levels for writers and gains for storyboard artists.
Overall, the new contract represents a significant achievement for The Animation Guild and its members, reflecting a collective effort to secure favorable terms in the rapidly evolving animation industry.
