Despite initial reports suggesting his passing, his family members have confirmed that he is still alive and in critical condition, requesting prayers for his recovery.
Hussain’s sister, Khurshid Aulia, clarified his status, emphasizing the critical nature of his condition but confirming that he is still breathing. Another individual claiming to be Hussain’s nephew also confirmed his survival and urged the removal of misinformation about his death, asking for prayers for his uncle’s health.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Ministry, which initially posted about Hussain’s death, retracted their statement. Despite the absence of an official confirmation from his family, various officials and public figures paid tribute to the tabla maestro in response to the initial reports.
Zakir Hussain was born on March 9, 1951, in Mumbai, India, making him 73 years old as of December 2024. While his exact net worth is not known, estimates suggest it could range from $1 million to $10 million.
He is married to Antonia Minnecola, a Kathak dancer and teacher who also manages his career. The couple has two daughters, Anisa Qureshi, a filmmaker who graduated from UCLA, and Isabella Qureshi, who is currently studying dance in Manhattan.
