Teddi Mellencamp Shares Her Experience After Brain Tumor Diagnosis
Teddi Mellencamp discusses her journey following a multiple brain tumor diagnosis and her close friend Tamra Judge’s unwavering support during this challenging time.
In a recent episode of their podcast, Two Ts in a Pod, the Real Housewives stars had a heartfelt conversation where Mellencamp, 43, shared her recent health struggles.
Symptoms and Hospitalization
Mellencamp detailed experiencing severe migraines and cognitive issues before being rushed to the hospital by her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave, who was concerned about a possible brain hemorrhage.
Following a CT scan, doctors found multiple brain tumors, a shocking revelation that left Mellencamp in disbelief.
In the midst of processing the news, Judge, 57, shared a poignant text message exchange they had shortly after the diagnosis.
“I don’t know if it [was] just me or I was in the group text, but you said to me, ‘You all thought I was mental, but actually, I’m on my deathbed,’” Judge recalled, her voice breaking.
“And I remember texting you back and said, ‘No, you’re not, because if you’re on yours, then I’m on mine, because I can’t live without you.’”
Teddi’s Battle with Tumors
On February 12, Mellencamp announced on Instagram that after suffering from “severe and debilitating headaches” for weeks, doctors discovered multiple tumors in her brain that had been growing for at least six months.
After the initial diagnosis, four tumors were surgically removed, but subsequent scans revealed three more tumors in her brain and two in her lungs.
Despite the ongoing challenges, Mellencamp is determined to fight. She has started radiation treatment on March 17 and will receive immunotherapy every three weeks.
Teddi’s Painful Journey to Diagnosis
Reflecting on her experience during the podcast, Mellencamp described the intense pain she endured before seeking medical help.
“I was at a horse show. I remember going to my friend Nicole like, ‘I have the worst migraine I’ve ever had in my entire life,’” she said.
She also experienced difficulty speaking and severe shaking and confusion.
“I started shaking really bad, and I didn’t know where I was,” she admitted.
Despite trying migraine medication, her symptoms persisted and worsened over time.
“I remember being in such extreme pain. I could barely walk. I couldn’t see. I didn’t wanna do anything,” she explained.
“I honestly didn’t know what to do because everything in my life was upside down.”
Teddi’s Regret and Advice
Mellencamp revealed that her brain tumors were a result of melanoma that had spread, and she wishes she had sought medical help sooner.
“I wish the second that I felt those headaches, I wish the second that I started not feeling like myself, I would have gone to the doctor and gotten checked,” she said.
As she looks ahead to her treatment, Mellencamp remains positive and determined to confront her diagnosis.
“I’m feeling really positive,” she shared, displaying her resilience in facing this challenge head-on.
Throughout her journey, Judge has been a constant pillar of support, highlighting the strength of their enduring friendship.
