Carlie Hanson has returned with a frank new single called “Living Feeling Dead.”
The track follows her second album, Wisconsin, which she shared earlier this year and serves as her alt-pop love letter to the Midwest. While her latest song feels different than the ones on that record, they possess a similar thorough line. Hanson’s songs stem from a place of open sincerity and tenderness, where she’s unafraid to lay her feelings bare. On “Living Feeling Dead,” she does exactly that. The accompanying music video, directed by Hanson and Ryan Schaefer, shows her both grinding and goofing around in the studio as she switches from fierce vocal takes to taking a break to rage.

“Whenever I’d go back home to Wisconsin after missing it for so long, within the next week, I’m ready to move on and get back to work,” Hanson told AP earlier this year. “But then again, I wanted to spend as much time as possible with my family and friends. It’s a constant battle. You have to make sacrifices.”
