Sarah Michelle Gellar, known for her role as Buffy Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is now expressing her support for a reboot of the popular TV series. In a recent interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Gellar mentioned that she had previously been against the idea of reviving the show, but after seeing successful reboots like Sex and the City and Dexter, she is now open to the possibility.
Gellar stated, “It’s funny, I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble and it’s so perfect. But watching Sex and the City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.’” She also added, “It could be anything. It’s a universe. And it makes you realize that in this world, we need those heroes, I think, more so than ever.”
The prospect of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot has also been confirmed by Dolly Parton, who served as an uncredited producer on the original series. Despite Gellar’s previous reservations about returning to the role, she now acknowledges the importance of continuing the story of female empowerment that the show represented.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is currently set to star in the upcoming prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, but fans are still eager to see her potentially reprise her role as Buffy. The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, led by Gellar and a talented cast of ’90s and early 2000s stars, ran for seven seasons and 144 episodes.
Would you be excited for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot with Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising her iconic role, or do you think the show should remain a beloved classic?
