“The Fire Inside” starring Ryan Destiny and directed by Rachel Morrison has finally made its way to theaters after facing numerous challenges. Initially scheduled for production in March 2020 as a Universal Studios release, the project was put on hold due to the pandemic. After being almost canceled following issues with casting, the film was revived by Amazon MGM Studios, with Brian Tyree Henry stepping in to play the role of Jason Crutchfield.
Over the course of five years, Destiny, known for her roles in “Star” and “Grown-ish,” had to start and stop her boxing training multiple times. Despite the setbacks, she remained committed to the role, stating, “I knew how special it was. This isn’t a story that comes across the audition table all the time. It was very rare in that way.”
The film features intense boxing sequences choreographed to reflect the real-life fights of American boxer Claressa “T-Rex” Shields. With each fight carrying a different meaning in Shields’ life, the choreography was crucial in capturing the emotional depth of the story.
After facing multiple challenges and setbacks, Destiny remained dedicated to the project, determined not to let go of the opportunity to bring Shields’ story to life on the big screen. The resilience and hard work put into the film highlight the incredible journey of its production.
