The highly anticipated prequel series of the beloved Legally Blonde film franchise is finally in production. Fans will get a chance to explore the early life of the iconic Elle Woods before she heads to Harvard Law School. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming series.
According to the show’s description, the series will follow Elle Woods during her high school years, showcasing the experiences that shaped her into the confident and stylish character we all love from the first Legally Blonde movie.
In the original film released in 2001, Elle, played by Reese Witherspoon, embarks on a journey to Harvard Law School after a breakup to win back her ex-boyfriend. As she navigates the challenges of law school and builds new relationships, she starts to question her true desires in life.
The sequel, Legally Blonde 2, sees Elle taking on the cause of animal rights in Washington, DC. Additionally, a spinoff released in 2009 introduced twin cousins of Elle, played by Milly and Becky Rosso. Despite talks of a third Legally Blonde film, no official plans have materialized yet.
The role of young Elle Woods in the prequel series will be played by Georgia native Lexi Minetree, a talented actress and USC graduate with experience in theater and public relations. Reese Witherspoon, who originated the role, announced Lexi’s casting on Instagram, expressing her excitement for the new series.
While a specific release date for the series has not been confirmed, it is expected to premiere on Prime Video in 2025. Filming is set to begin in March, as revealed by Reese Witherspoon in a recent interview.
