Over three decades have passed since Vinny Gambini graced a courtroom, but could a My Cousin Vinny sequel be in the works? Ralph Macchio, who starred in the original film alongside Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei, hinted at the possibility of a sequel during an interview at PaleyFest.
Macchio mentioned that he has had discussions with writers about a potential sequel to the beloved comedy. While Pesci may not be as active in acting these days, Macchio emphasized the importance of involving the talented actor in some capacity, suggesting that he could even FaceTime his role in, although the feasibility of such an arrangement remains uncertain.
The 1992 film follows two New Yorkers who find themselves on trial for a murder they did not commit in Alabama. Macchio’s character enlists the help of his cousin Vinny, a newly-minted lawyer with no trial experience, and his fiancée (played by Tomei) to defend them. The film was a critical and commercial success, with Tomei winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
While Macchio recently concluded his run on Cobra Kai, he is set to reprise his role as Daniel LaRusso in Karate Kid: Legends, where he will star alongside Jackie Chan. The film follows a kung fu prodigy from Beijing who moves to New York City and enlists the help of LaRusso and Chan’s character for a martial arts competition. Karate Kid: Legends is scheduled to be released on May 30th.
Hollywood has a penchant for belated sequels, but the quality of such films can vary. Would you be interested in seeing a sequel to My Cousin Vinny hit the big screen?
