Questlove to Direct New Documentary on Saturday Night Live’s Musical Guests
According to reports from Deadline and Variety, Questlove is set to direct a new documentary that delves into the history of musical guests on Saturday Night Live (SNL). The documentary, titled Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music, will showcase “untold stories behind the culture-defining, groundbreaking, and newsmaking musical performances, sketches, and cameos of the past 50 years.” With interviews from over 50 artists such as Bad Bunny, Elvis Costello, Billie Eilish, and more, the film is set to air on January 27 on NBC.
SNL’s 50th season has seen performances from a range of artists, including Eilish, Gracie Abrams, Shaboozey, and Coldplay. Notable guests like Hozier have also graced the SNL stage, with Charli XCX recently hosting and performing on the show. This weekend, SNL’s episode before the holiday break will be hosted by Martin Short, with Hozier returning as the musical guest.
Questlove, known for his recent documentary Summer of Soul, which won several awards, is no stranger to directing music-focused films.
