The 2025 Sundance Film Festival showcased 88 feature films in January, with one standout being James Griffith’s “The Ballad of Wallis Island.” Starring Carey Mulligan and Tom Basden, the film has generated buzz since its premiere and continues to garner attention. Focus Features has exclusively released a first look at stars Carey Mulligan and Tom Basden singing the original song, “Our Love.”
“The Ballad of Wallis Island” follows Charles, played by Tim Key, as he invites the fictional musical act McGwyer Mortimer, portrayed by Basden and Mulligan, to perform on his remote island. The clip shows Herb and Nell rehearsing a classic song together for the first time in years.
The film is an adaptation of a BAFTA Award-nominated short film made by Griffiths, Key, and Basden in 2007. Basden wrote and composed multiple songs for the movie, drawing inspiration from artists like Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell. The film opens in select theaters on March 28 and nationwide on April 18.
