Oprah Winfrey just recently disclosed why she decided against making a cameo in the brand-new music flick adjustment of “The Color Purple.”
Confessing that she “thought about it,” she eventually identified it would certainly be “distracting” from Danielle Brooks, that costars in the movie as the epic Sofia.
“Actually, I thought about it,” Winfrey informed The Hollywood Press reporter. “It would’ve been good in the church scene, but I thought it would also be distracting when Sofia is getting married that if the old original Sofia was just one of the people in the church.”
Winfrey, that generated the attribute movie from supervisor Strike Bazawule, likewise stated the situations around recording were a barrier to her involvement before the video camera.
“Then they were shooting that in the middle of Georgia when COVID was [spreading]. Like, ‘OK, well I ain’t sitting in that church all day anyway,’” she remembered believing.
“The Color Purple,” which costars “American Idol” victor Fantasia Barrino as the grown-up Celie, Oscar candidate Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery and “Rustin” celebrity Colman Domingo as Mister, does, nonetheless, attribute a unforgettable shock cameo from among the Steven Spielberg movie’s initial celebrities. Whoopi Goldberg, that starred in the 1985 adjustment of Alice Pedestrian’s unique as Celie, plays the midwife with a young Celie’s giving birth, as depicted by Phylicia Pearl Mpasi.
Mentioning Goldberg’s cameo, Winfrey included that she assumes “it’s more special that it’s just Whoopi” as opposed to her making a look in the movie.
“[We] just thought it was a wonderful Easter egg for audiences who have appreciated the film over the years, for the diehards,” Winfrey stated. “And we also thought it was a lovely homage to Whoopi.”
“The Color Purple” available to a monstrous $18 million Xmas Day opening and is playing nationwide currently.
