Sacred Bones Records recently announced the upcoming release of a new music collection by the late cult artist Q Lazzarus. Titled “Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus (Music From the Motion Picture)”, this 21-song compilation features a treasure trove of previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1985 and 1995. These songs, sourced from Q Lazzarus’ archive of digital tapes and cassettes, will be available as a 10-track vinyl album, with additional cuts included in the digital and CD versions. Tragically, Q Lazzarus passed away in 2022 after a brief illness at the age of 61. Prior to her passing, she had been collaborating with filmmaker and friend Aridjis Fuentes on a documentary also titled “Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus”, with the music collection being released in conjunction with this project.
The track “Goodbye Horses” gained fame through its appearance in two Jonathan Demme films: 1988’s “Married to the Mob” and the more well-known 1991 classic “The Silence of the Lambs”, where it featured prominently in a memorable scene involving the film’s antagonist, Buffalo Bill. Q Lazzarus first met Demme by chance when she was working as a cab driver in the 1980s. Similarly, she encountered Aridjis during her time as a New York driver in 2019.
