A panel of top Netflix executives celebrated the global streamer’s 10-year presence in key European markets such as France, Germany, and Italy at Content London. VP of content EMEA Larry Tanz, VP of content France Pauline Dauvin, and VP of content Italy Tinny Andreatta discussed Netflix’s milestones, including the 10-year anniversary in France and Germany this year, with upcoming milestones in Italy and Spain by 2025.
Tanz highlighted Netflix’s investment of €6.5 billion ($6.8 billion) in European, non-English series and films between 2020 and 2023. This investment led to popular series and films like Society of the Snow (Spain), Troll (Norway), Borgen (Denmark), Under Paris (France), High Water (Poland), and The Hand Of God (Italy), benefiting both members and the industry with 60,000 jobs created in Europe.
The executives discussed their commitment to creating content for EMEA audiences, with Andreatta revealing details about upcoming shows like The Law According to Lidia Poët and The Leopard in Italy. Dauvin mentioned a new special series for the talent from the rap reality show Nouvelle Ecole competition in France.
Tanz teased the upcoming second season of Squid Game, mentioning a fan event in Paris. The executives emphasized the importance of localizing storytelling for Netflix’s global viewers to drive engagement and business success.
They also touched on Netflix’s training programs to develop storytellers, writers, directors, producers, and talent globally, with over 100 workshops conducted this year. This focus on upskilling and training is part of the streaming giant’s strategy to support the next generation of storytellers and foster healthy competition in the industry.
