Robert De Niro is set to star in The Whisper Man, a new crime thriller for Netflix. The film is based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Alex North and will be directed by James Ashcroft. Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer are writing the script for the movie.
The story follows a crime writer who seeks help from his estranged father, a retired police detective, after his 8-year-old son is abducted. They discover a connection to a convicted serial killer known as ‘The Whisper Man.’ Production is scheduled to begin in the spring on the East Coast, with Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Michael Disco producing for AGBO.
De Niro previously worked with Netflix on The Irishman and the upcoming series Zero Day. Zero Day will mark De Niro’s first regular TV role, where he plays former U.S. President George Mullen leading the Zero Day Commission to find cyber terrorists.
In addition to The Whisper Man, De Niro will also appear in The Alto Knights, a film from Barry Levinson where he plays both Vito Genovese and Frank Costello. The movie follows the two organized crime bosses as they compete for control of New York City’s streets.
There are also rumors of a new Meet the Parents movie reuniting De Niro with Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner. This new film is expected to bring back the beloved characters from the previous movies in the franchise.
