Mindy Kaling Discusses Motherhood and Relating to Michael Scott from The Office

Mindy Kaling recently made an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show where she opened up about motherhood and how she relates to the character of Michael Scott from The Office, played by Steve Carell. Kaling, who is a mother to daughters Katherine and Anne and son Spencer, mentioned that she has welcomed three children.

In a nostalgic moment, Kaling recalled working on an episode of The Office where Scott expressed his desire to have 100 kids so he could have 100 friends. She admitted that when she wrote the episode at 25, she was far from thinking about having kids herself. Now as a mother, she finds herself thinking about how she can’t wait for her daughters to grow older and be her pals.

In a light-hearted manner, Kaling joked that she sees herself as Michael Scott and hopes that her children will become her pals in their 20s. Kaling portrayed the character of Kelly Kapoor on the NBC sitcom for eight seasons before moving on to work on The Mindy Project.

Despite leaving the show in 2012, Kaling has expressed interest in reprising her role if The Office were to be rebooted. She admitted that it has been a long time since she portrayed Kelly Kapoor and would need to get back into character, but she is open to the idea for the sake of the original cast and crew.
