Meta recently announced a new round of layoffs, affecting 5% of its workforce, which amounts to around 3,000 employees. The internal memo sent to employees outlined the process, with affected employees being notified on Monday through email. U.S.-based employees will receive notifications at 5 a.m. PT, followed by international employees at varying times.
Meta’s VP of Human Resources, Janelle Gale, stated that affected employees will receive details about their termination and severance package in the email. While offices will be open on Monday, employees are allowed to work from home if their job permits. The company follows a hybrid schedule, requiring employees to work from the office three days a week.
The memo also addressed concerns about backfilling roles and communication about the layoffs within the company. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously informed employees about the decision to raise performance standards and move out low-performing employees faster than before.
It’s important to note that Meta’s layoffs are not unique in the tech industry, as companies like Amazon and Salesforce have also conducted layoffs in recent months.
