Kejap Food, known for its pioneering drive-thru kiosks offering local food, has recently been acquired by Palaterium Sdn Bhd. This acquisition was announced on February 18. Palaterium is the operator of HWC Coffee, a Malaysian specialty coffee chain, and Dateen Catering, a halal food catering business.
The collaboration between Kejap Food and HWC Coffee Management started as a merger, allowing both companies to share resources and expertise. According to Betty Ting, the founder and director of Kejap Food, this partnership has led to management team synergies, operational efficiencies, and accelerated growth for all three brands under Palaterium – Kejap Food, HWC Coffee, and Dateen Catering.
The news of the acquisition coincides with the opening of Kejap Food’s newest outlet at INC KLEC Mall. Despite Palaterium becoming the majority shareholder, Kejap Food aims to maintain its core brand identity and vision as Malaysia’s first local fast-food brand celebrating the nation’s diverse food culture.
With the backing of Palaterium, Kejap Food now has access to stronger management, operational, and marketing support, enabling the brand to scale its reach more efficiently. Palaterium will provide assistance in branding, marketing, operational processes, IT support, leasing, securing prime locations, optimizing store layouts, halal certification compliance, and maintaining high food safety standards.
While Kejap Food’s core team focuses on food R&D, production, and supply chain management, Palaterium’s expertise will help drive the brand’s innovation and operational excellence. The acquisition marks the end of a previous relationship with Kawan Food, with Palaterium stepping in to align strategic directions for Kejap Food’s growth plans.
Kejap Food is expanding beyond its drive-thru format to include dine-in formats such as the outlet at KL Eco City (KLEC). The brand aims to cater to office workers seeking quick, flavorful meal options. Currently operating eight outlets strategically located across Malaysia, Kejap Food plans to open six more outlets by the end of the year.
Additionally, Kejap Food plans to grow its licensing model, expand its frozen food supply chains for B2B clients, and enhance its catering services for corporate clients. The brand is actively seeking investors and entrepreneurs who share its vision for growth and expansion.
