Rain did not dampen the spirits of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as it continued with its annual lineup of performances, oversized balloons, and celebrities. Despite some brief interruptions from pro-Palestinian protesters, the show went on as participants and spectators braved the wet weather to enjoy the spectacle.
This year’s parade featured new balloons, floats, and performances from Jennifer Hudson, Idina Menzel, Kylie Minogue, and more. Celebrity guests attended a private reception at Macy’s Herald Square before watching the parade from the grandstands on 34th Street.
The parade, which dates back to 1924, still retains its tradition with marching bands, clowns, and a grand finale featuring Santa Claus ushering in the holiday season. This year’s event included giant character balloons, floats, marching bands, clowns, and performances from various artists and groups.
Highlights of the parade included appearances from reality TV stars, musicians, and Broadway veterans. Unique floats included a pasta-themed float and a celebration of the Bronx Zoo’s anniversary.
Despite the rain, the parade went on as planned, with organizers monitoring wind speeds to ensure the safety of the balloons. The parade has only been canceled three times in its history, during World War II.
The parade was broadcast on NBC and streamed on the Peacock service, with a Spanish simulcast on Telemundo. The event showcased the holiday spirit and excitement of the season for viewers around the country.
