Taylor Swift’s famous 2015 girl squad left a lasting impression, including her reaction to the Saturday Night Live parody inspired by the group, as revealed by Lorne Michaels.
The singer made waves that year with her “Bad Blood” remix music video featuring Kendrick Lamar, alongside appearances by Selena Gomez, Zendaya, Jessica Alba, Cindy Crawford, Gigi Hadid, Hayley Williams, Mariska Hargitay, and Lena Dunham, among others.
Following the video’s release, SNL parodied Swift’s iconic girl group in two sketches during season 41. One sketch, titled “The Squad,” depicted a post-apocalyptic world led by Swift and her friends.
Michaels shared that Swift initially had reservations about the sketch before its airing, even calling him to request it be cut from the show. However, Michaels jokingly responded, “Taylor, I do not negotiate with terrorists,” prompting Swift to send flowers with a note saying, “I hope there’s no bad blood” after the sketch aired.
Another sketch, “Tina & Amy’s Dope Squad,” featured Tina Fey and Amy Poehler recreating the “Bad Blood” video with appearances by Aidy Bryant, Gayle King, and Amy Schumer.
Having made multiple appearances on SNL over the years, Swift has a history with the show since first serving as a musical guest in 2009, eventually hosting an episode later that same year. She has also made cameo appearances in subsequent episodes.
