Kneecap, the Irish hip-hop comedy featuring Michael Fassbender, has received the most nominations for the Irish Film & Television Awards 2025. This comedy, directed by Rich Peppiatt, follows the West Belfast hip-hop trio named Kneecap as they try to protect their native language. The film has been nominated in 17 categories, including Best Film, Director, Script, Lead Actor (all three members of Kneecap), and Supporting Actor for Michael Fassbender.
Michael Fassbender is also nominated for Best Lead Actor in a TV Drama for his role in The Agency. Saoirse Ronan has also received two nominations, one for Leading Film Actress for The Outrun and another for Supporting Actress in Blitz.
In the film section, following Kneecap, Tim Mielants’ historical drama Small Things Like These received nine nominations, including one for Cillian Murphy for Best Film Actor. Other notable nominees include Colin Farrell for Best TV Drama Actor for The Penguin, Jessie Buckley for Best Lead Film Actress for Wicked Little Letters, and Barry Keoghan for Best Film Supporting Actor for Bird.
The IFTAs ceremony is scheduled for February 14 at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre. Colm Meaney will be honored with the Irish Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement for his significant contribution to the Irish and international screen industry.
