Rob Liefeld, the co-creator of Deadpool, sparked controversy recently with comments suggesting that the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, should be fired. Liefeld criticized Feige over the disappointing performance of Captain America: Brave New World. These comments came after Liefeld ended all ties with studios due to alleged mistreatment by Marvel and being excluded from the Deadpool & Wolverine afterparty.
Here are the details of Liefeld’s remarks regarding Feige:
Fans are speculating about Kevin Feige’s potential departure from Marvel following Liefeld’s latest remarks. However, the truth is that Feige is not leaving Marvel and is expected to stay on until at least Secret Wars and possibly beyond.
Liefeld took to social media to express his disappointment over the performance of Captain America 4. He criticized the film’s box office numbers, which saw an 82.4% drop from the opening weekend. Liefeld wrote, “Get Feige off the mound. He’s spent.”
This isn’t the first time Liefeld has called out Feige. He previously spoke out on a podcast about Feige’s alleged mistreatment of comic book creators, stating, “Kevin Feige does not treat comic book creators well. That is my personal experience.”
Liefeld’s relationship with Marvel started to deteriorate in early 2023 when he learned about a decision to credit Wolverine’s co-creator to former editor-in-chief Roy Thomas instead of Christine Valada, the widow of the original creator, Len Wein. Liefeld, who is close to Valada, was upset by this decision.
After sending an email to Marvel requesting special credit for Deadpool and Wolverine, as well as access to premieres and other opportunities, Liefeld felt that his requests were ignored. When he and his family were left out of the Deadpool & Wolverine afterparty, he officially ended his ties with Marvel.
