Keke Palmer reminisced about her awe-inspiring experience of working with Mariska Hargitay on an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit back in 2005. In a recent interview with BuzzFeed to promote her new book, Master of Me, the actress fondly looked back on the time when meeting Olivia Benson left her speechless.
“I grew up watching her show and was a huge fan all my life as a kid. I had the opportunity to work with her when I was 12 years old,” Palmer shared. “She saved me from Hurricane Katrina in the storyline. I was in the hospital, my last breath in character when she walked through that door. I was in deep shock and forgot how to act. I felt like I really was from Katrina and on my last breath.”
Despite her initial nervousness, Palmer managed to get through the scene with Hargitay’s support. Following the filming, Hargitay invited Palmer and her co-star to hang out in her trailer, where she had a variety of goodies for them.
Years later, Palmer reached out to Hargitay expressing her admiration and was met with a warm response. Although the SVU star may not remember the encounter, she assured Palmer of her support and pride in her accomplishments.
Palmer’s appearance on SVU in season seven, episode 10, titled “Storm,” followed her character Tasha and her sisters being abducted from Hurricane Katrina-affected New Orleans to New York City. With the help of Detectives Benson and Stabler, Tasha assists in finding her missing sister and their kidnapper.
