Julia Roberts Rejects Notting Hill Sequel

Richard Curtis, the acclaimed romantic comedy writer behind hits like Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones, and Love Actually, recently revealed that he attempted to create a sequel to the beloved film Notting Hill, but was met with disappointment when Julia Roberts, the Oscar-winning actress from the original movie, turned down the opportunity. In the 1999 film, Roberts portrayed an American movie star who falls in love with a British bookstore owner.

During a recent interview, Curtis explained why Roberts decided to decline his proposal for a Notting Hill sequel. It turns out that the actress did not agree with the idea for the sequel’s storyline.

Notting Hill, directed by Roger Mitchell and penned by Curtis, also starred Hugh Grant and received critical acclaim. Roberts and Grant both received Golden Globe nominations for their performances in the film, which currently holds a Certified Fresh rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The original film follows the story of William Thacker, a London bookstore owner whose life takes an unexpected turn when famous American actress Anna Scott enters his shop. A romantic encounter leads to a whirlwind affair as the unlikely couple navigates the challenges of their contrasting lifestyles in the name of love.

While a Notting Hill sequel may not be in the works, fans can still enjoy the timeless romance of the original film and appreciate the performances of its talented cast.
