Season one of Landman just concluded, leaving fans in shock over Jon Hamm’s character, Monty Miller. After much speculation about Monty’s fate, it was confirmed by co-creator Christian Wallace that Monty did indeed pass away from a weak heart unable to withstand another heart attack and bypass surgery. Jon Hamm expressed his gratitude for being part of the hit Paramount+ series and added another memorable character to his repertoire.
Following Monty’s death, the responsibility of managing his oil company, M-Tex, falls on his friend Tommy Norris, played by Billy Bob Thornton. In the finale, Tommy survives a brutal attack by the cartel and strikes a deal with guest star Andy Garcia to coexist in the oil patch. The series ends with Tommy contemplating his next move as he stares down a baby coyote in his yard.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Thornton discussed the symbolism of that final scene and hinted at a potential second season. The ambiguity and metaphorical resonance of the show have captured audience interest, setting up a compelling narrative for future episodes.
As Hamm reflects on Monty’s demise and its impact on the story, he acknowledges the growth potential for both Tommy and Monty’s widow, Cami, played by Demi Moore. With Monty’s absence, Tommy faces new challenges as he takes over M-Tex Oil, while Cami likely steps into a larger role dealing with the aftermath of her husband’s death.
Looking ahead, fans can expect big things from Cami in season two, as hinted by Wallace and Sheridan. Hamm’s one-season commitment to Landman prevented his return for a likely second season, but he expressed openness to working with Taylor Sheridan again in the future.
Aside from Landman, Hamm has another project lined up, a show called Your Friends and Neighbors, set to premiere in April on Apple TV. Hamm’s versatility as an actor allows him to take on intense and powerful roles, bringing diversity to his performances and keeping audiences engaged.
Landman season one is currently available for streaming on Paramount+, offering viewers a thrilling drama with standout performances from the cast.
