Johnny Mathis has made the difficult decision to retire from live stage performances due to age and memory issues that have accelerated. The announcement was made on the 89-year-old singer’s Facebook page, stating that all concerts scheduled from June 2025 onwards have been cancelled.
Mathis, who is approaching his 90th birthday this year, has four remaining concerts on his 2025 Voice of Romance tour before officially retiring. These concerts include stops in Pennsylvania, Indiana, California, and New Jersey, with his final show scheduled for May 18. Refunds for the cancelled shows will be processed through the original point of purchase.
The statement on Mathis’ Facebook page expressed gratitude to his fans for their continued love and support throughout his career. Known for hits like “Too Much, Too Little, Too Late,” “Gina,” “What Will My Mary Say,” and “Misty,” Mathis has been touring for over seven decades since his debut album in 1956.
With five Grammy nominations and The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003, Mathis has solidified his place in music history. His recordings “Chances Are,” “It’s Not for Me to Say,” and “Misty” are in the Grammy Hall of Fame. Fans worldwide have enjoyed his music, making his retirement a bittersweet farewell to an iconic career.
