The first area to be affected was the exclusive and celebrity-filled Pacific Palisades, where almost every home and building was destroyed. The Eaton fire also damaged Altadena and Pasadena. Subsequently, fires spread to other areas like the Hollywood Hills, Malibu, and Calabasas, with the cause still undetermined. Amid the chaos, L.A. had several fires, including the Palisades fire, Eaton fire, Sunset fire, Hurst fire, Lidia fire, and Kenneth fire. The Palisades fire ravaged Pacific Palisades and impacted numerous celebrity residences, displacing residents who sought shelter after trying to defend their properties.
By January 10, 2025, Governor Gavin Newsom announced on social media that the Sunset fire in the Hollywood Hills had been fully contained. The Lidia fire was 75% contained, while the Hurst, Kenneth, and Eaton fires were at 37%, 35%, and 3% containment respectively. The Palisades fire was at 8% containment.
Celebrities such as Mandy Moore, Paris Hilton, and Billy Crystal confirmed the loss of their homes in the fires, with some A-listers witnessing the destruction on live television. Fortunately, iconic landmarks like the Hollywood Sign were unharmed, despite being threatened by the fires.
Additionally, the Getty Villa Museum was at risk during the Palisades fire, but it remains intact. Photos showing the museum surrounded by smoke circulated online, highlighting the impact of the fires on cultural landmarks.
