Meta apps and services, such as Instagram, Facebook, Threads, and Messenger, are currently experiencing issues following a major outage that has lasted over two hours. Users are unable to log in or access the company’s websites. Engadget staff and users on X and Bluesky have reported difficulties loading and using Meta’s apps. Even Meta’s company site displayed a message stating “This page isn’t available right now.”
Downdetector has recorded over 90,000 reports of issues specifically with Facebook.com. Outage reports are still coming in for Whatsapp, Threads, and Messenger. The problem seems to be affecting multiple Meta apps and services. The company’s status page for enterprise customers indicates “major disruptions” across nearly all Meta APIs and ad tools.
When contacted for comment, Meta referred to a statement on X addressing the issue. The company is working to resolve the technical issue as quickly as possible and apologizes for any inconvenience caused.
This isn’t the first time Meta has faced a major outage, with a similar incident occurring in March 2024. At that time, users were unable to access Meta’s apps and services for two hours. The current outage has also been attributed to a “technical issue” by Meta, but there is no timeline for when the problem will be fully resolved.
Update, Dec 11 2024, 4:50PM ET: Additional details have been added regarding the length of the outage and its impact on Meta’s enterprise tools.
