Hugh Grant Urges Criminal Investigation Into News Group Newspapers Following Prince Harry Legal Victory

After Prince Harry’s legal victory resulting in a significant settlement, actor Hugh Grant is calling for a criminal investigation into Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers. Grant, who also settled with NGN, criticized the civil suit, claiming it fails to uncover the truth and is urging further action.

Prince Harry’s lawyer, David Sherborne, has also called for authorities to investigate News Group Newspapers, the parent company. Grant emphasized the need for a criminal probe into NGN following Harry’s win, as the Duke of Sussex accused the publisher of illegal information-gathering activities between 1996 and 2011.

On January 22, Harry reached an agreement with NGN, involving a substantial financial settlement and a full apology from the publisher. Despite the settlement, which did not include apologies from senior executives involved at the time, Grant insists that further action is necessary.

In a BBC Radio 4 interview, Grant criticized the use of a civil lawsuit, stating it is not the right instrument to uncover the truth about NGN’s actions. He called for a criminal inquiry into the newspaper and urged the British Crown Prosecution Service to take action against NGN.

Additionally, sources revealed that Harry’s settlement exceeds $12 million, compensating him for allegations of illegal information gathering. Lawyer David Sherborne highlighted the personal toll the case has taken on Harry and his family, calling for a police inquiry into the newspaper.

NGN also apologized for their actions and admitted guilt to the accusations, offering a full apology to Prince Harry for the intrusion into his private life. Lord Watson praised Harry’s courage and called for a personal apology from Rupert Murdoch to the Duke of Sussex and others who have suffered due to the media empire’s actions.
