The Directors Guild of America has announced the leaders of its negotiations committee for the 2026 talks with studios and streamers. Jon Avnet, a prominent film and television director, will chair the union’s negotiations committee, while Karen Gaviola, a veteran television helmer, will serve as vice chair. The DGA’s current deal with major entertainment firms is set to expire on June 30, 2026.

Avnet and Gaviola have both been involved in previous negotiation rounds and will bring their expertise to the upcoming talks. The DGA is known for thorough research before negotiations, ensuring that the interests of its members are well represented.
Avnet and Gaviola will work closely with DGA national executive director Russell Hollander, who will be the union’s chief negotiator. The rest of the negotiations committee will be announced later this year.
