CRKD and Gibson have partnered to launch new guitar controllers inspired by the classic Gibson Les Paul shape. These controllers are designed for gaming enthusiasts who want to rock out in games like Fortnite Festival, Clone Hero, and Rock Band 4.
The two models, the Gibson Les Paul Black Tribal Encore Edition Guitar Controller and the Gibson Les Paul Blueberry Burst Pro Edition Guitar Controller, feature traditional gaming guitar elements like the whammy bar and colored frets, updated for modern platforms. CRKD is offering both multi-platform and Xbox-specific versions of these controllers, each with a unique set of features depending on whether you choose the Encore or Pro Edition.
The Pro Edition boasts precision-engineered frets, a Hall-Effect whammy bar, and a Hall-Effect Strum Bar with haptic feedback for an enhanced gaming experience. Meanwhile, the Encore Edition includes mechanical frets and a standard strum bar. Both controllers are designed to be modular, allowing players to customize and upgrade components as desired.
In addition to the traditional guitar features, these controllers also include analog sticks and a d-pad for menu navigation. They offer multiple connection options, including wired via USB cable, wireless via a 2.4GHz dongle, or Bluetooth. The Xbox version is compatible with Xbox, PC, and Android devices, while the multi-platform version works with PC, Switch, Android, and PS3.
With the decline of music rhythm games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, third-party games like Clone Hero and YARG have kept the genre alive. Harmonix’s Fortnite Festival, which introduced Rock Band-style gameplay to Fortnite in 2023, has also been a notable success.
The Gibson Les Paul Black Tribal Encore Edition Guitar Controller is available for pre-order starting at $109.99, while the Gibson Les Paul Blueberry Burst Pro Edition Guitar Controller is priced at $119.99. Both controllers will begin shipping in June 2025.
