If you’re a frequent visitor to night markets and bazaars, chances are you’ve encountered Broti, a stall known for its long queues and massive one-litre servings of Thai milk tea. Behind this successful venture is 33-year-old Syed Uzair Alqadri, who has expanded the brand to a permanent physical location at Busorrah Street.
Syed started Broti in 2015, initially selling ciabatta sandwiches with Thai milk tea as a side drink at Ramadan Bazaars. However, the overwhelming demand for their milk tea made it the focal point of the business, leading them to focus solely on drinks the following year.
Despite facing challenges due to his lack of formal F&B training, Syed learned from his mistakes and refined his processes over the years. Broti participated in various trade events and night markets to gain exposure and grow their customer base.
In 2020, realizing the need for a more stable revenue stream during the COVID-19 pandemic, Broti opened its first brick-and-mortar store at 21 Baghdad Street. Four years later, the business relocated to 34 Busorrah Street, where it now shares a space with Offday Coffee, a coffee venture started by Hakim, Syed’s brother-in-law.
Co-existing in a shared space presented challenges in logistics, branding, and menu coordination, but both brands have fine-tuned their workflows to operate smoothly. With a focus on community growth and providing great coffee, both Broti and Offday Coffee are gearing up to scale their operations and expand their offerings in the future.
